Game 84: Blue Crabs take out frustrations on Long Island, 11-4
The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs blasted the Long Island Ducks in the second game of a 4-game series, pounding out seventeen hits in an 11-4 win.
Starting pitcher Ryan Bicondoa lasted the entire contest, serving up his first complete game of the season. The all-star struck out five batters while scattering nine hits. Two of those runs came in the ninth inning, with the Blue Crabs trying to simply preserve the lead.
James Shanks started it off in the first inning, lacing a triple to the right-center gap that rolled all the way to the wall. Patrick Osborn would then be hit by a pitch and Clinton Johnston drew a walk, loading the bases for Jeremy Owens. The center fielder delivered, roping a double to left to plate two runs. Owens alertly reached second on an error by Carl Everett.
With two outs still in the frame, Chris Maples followed up with his own two-run single, allowing Johnston and Owens to score. The second baseman would pick up another RBI in the second inning when he doubled home Owens.
Patrick Osborn would add to his league leading RBI total with a three run home run in the bottom of the second inning. Osborn now has 78 RBI on the season, tops in the Atlantic League.
Bicondoa needed no more help, as the righty had Long Island fooled all night. It took Bicondoa only four pitches in the fourth inning to retire the side, a summary of what the night was for the Ducks.
Shanks and Owens both registered three hits for the home team, with Maples and Osborn chalking up three RBI apiece. Owens also had two runs batted in, and Brandon Ketron chipped in with two hits of his own. Every batter in the lineup registered a base hit, with seven different players crossing the plate.
