Bring cash… or get some Sand bucks

atm Bring cash... or get some Sand bucksAt the game yesterday (7/9/2008) the ATM machine was down and the concessions could only take cash. It appears that on July 4th, during the rain delay, one of the light poles was struck by lightening, and ever since, Regency Furniture Stadium’s computers and credit card services have been on the fritz.  From one team source, it seems as if the credit card service is out every other day.

Well, if you happen to show up at the game without cash, you can go to the box office and buy some Sand dollars.  It’s good as cash, and usable only in the stadium… but good at any store in the park.

Can we get some help out here?  Geek Squad or something?  :)

Edited: 8:15 PM :  Sorry folks, I misunderstood when they told me to go get some “SAM bucks”, they were actually saying “sand bucks” I think.  And, as the article above now reads, all references to that stupid “SAM buck” has been changed to protect the innocent. - Robert

  1. I don’t get the concept of SAM bucks. You pay cash for them, and use them in the stadium to buy things you could pay cash for. Is there some other special use for them? Does the team donate a percentage of all SAM buck sales to charity? (If not, they should.)

    I don’t get it.

  2. Good question. Think of them like a gift card. They are in $1 denominations, and you can give them to people to use as cash.

They seem to be bundled with some of their promotions, like the promotion for Saturdays day game. $7 ticket/$5 in Sand dollars for concessions.

There’s not much more to it than that.

Oh, and of course there’s their use as money when you haven’t got cash, and their credit card machines are down!

  3. Verizon also is to blame for some team issues (as a Verizon employee), we have had a rough time getting the Blue Crabs the appropriate technology to run the stadium. Believe it or not, they have had to operate with a wireless card and regular phone line until the “real” service gets out to the stadium site. I can’t believe that is all they lost after the lighting strike on the pole. Alot of fans around us didn’t think that light pole would come on during the 4th, but maybe the built the right way. I am embarassed to say that because Verizon signs my check, but christ we can put a man on the moon but can’t get service to the Piney Church? Hope that info helps.
