Kyle Nichols Traded
Wondering where Kyle Nichols has been lately?
Apparently he was traded… I didn’t see this on the Crab’s website. Odd.
According to the Atlantic League News Blog:
Crabs Trade Nichols: The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs have traded Kyle Nichols to the Lancaster Barnstormers for the ever popular future considerations.
Nichols was hitting .245 with five home runs and 25 RBI and was an everyday player for the club. Kind of an odd move.
In addition, they’ve added two other players to their roster:
Owens Signs With Blue Crabs: According to a source, the Blue Crabs have agreed to terms with OF Jeremy Owens. Owens, one of the best center fielders the league has seen while he was with the Somerset Patriots several years ago, was recently released by the Devil Rays.
Almonte Signs Too: Southern Maryland has also apparently signed P Hector Almonte. Almonte, a former Major Leaguer, pitched for the Somerset Patriots for the past two seasons.
Anyone reading about todays big win, should recognize Owen’s name, as he has already established himself as a hitter.
And recently, it was announced that the Crab’s RHP Reichert’s contract had been purchased:
[...]The contract of Southern Maryland Blue Crabs Pitcher Dan Reichert has been purchased by the Cleveland Indians, it was announced on Thursday. Reichert, who went 3-1 with a 3.40 ERA in six starts for the Blue Crabs, has been assigned to Triple-A Buffalo and is expected to start for the Bisons on Sunday. Reichert is the first player in franchise history to sign with an affiliated club.[...]
That’s a lot of activity. I was wondering how easy it is for the players to deal with all of this. Does the player have any say so, or can the club sell their contract whenever they want to?
